AFCON 2027 Draw.. Egypt Face A Balanced Test Against Angola, Malawi And South Sudan

In a new football scene reflecting the continued anticipation surrounding African football for one of the most competitive editions in the tournament’s history, the draw for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers was held, revealing the path Egypt will take toward the upcoming finals.
The draw, held on Tuesday under the supervision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), placed the Egyptian national team in a group that appears balanced on paper but is far from easy, as it includes Angola, Malawi, and South Sudan.
A Balanced Group, But One Full of Challenges
The Pharaohs enter the qualifiers from Pot 1, reflecting their stable status among Africa’s elite. However, this ranking alone will not guarantee an easy road to the tournament, especially with the noticeable improvement of several African teams in recent years.
The upcoming qualifiers will feature 48 teams divided into 12 groups of four. The matches will be played across three international windows on FIFA’s calendar.
According to the qualification system, the group winners and runners-up will advance to the finals, except in groups containing one of the host nations, where only one team qualifies.
The 2027 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations is set to be historic, as it will be hosted jointly for the first time by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, from June 19 to July 17, 2027, marking a unique organizational milestone in the continent’s history.
Egypt’s Fixtures Against Angola, Malawi, and South Sudan
In Egypt’s group, Angola stands out as the strongest opponent due to its continental experience and history in the tournament, having participated in multiple editions and reached advanced stages on several occasions. Malawi, meanwhile, has had sporadic appearances in the finals but has proven capable of upsetting stronger teams during qualifiers. South Sudan, on the other hand, enters the competition still chasing its first-ever qualification for the finals, having consistently failed to reach the tournament in previous campaigns.
Between the ambition of early qualification and the determination of its opponents, Egypt faces a serious test in a group that may not be the toughest on paper, but certainly demands full focus and no underestimation.
Thus begins Egypt’s journey toward AFCON 2027… a path that looks calculated, but African football always has surprises in store.
