Despite The Defeat Against Morocco, Ziad Saudi’s Goal Puts Egypt In Second Place And Leads Them To The World Cup

Egypt U17 lost 2-1 to Morocco in the final round of the group stage of the Africa U17 Cup of Nations, currently held in Morocco, in a match that carried major twists both on the pitch and in the group standings.
Despite the defeat, Egypt secured qualification to the quarter-finals and the U17 World Cup, thanks to a crucial goal scored by Ziad Saudi, which directly impacted the group ranking and ensured Egypt finished second.
A Strong Moroccan Start And A Late Egyptian Response
Morocco started the match with high intensity and clear attacking pressure, which paid off early when Mohamed Amine Moustach opened the scoring in the 18th minute after a well-worked move that exposed gaps in the Egyptian defense. The hosts continued to push forward and create danger, while Egypt struggled to contain the pressure.
Just before half-time, Morocco doubled their lead in stoppage time after a defensive mistake, with Imran Talai finishing comfortably to make it 2-0 at the break.
Egypt improved significantly in the second half, and in the 49th minute Ziad Saudi pulled one back after an assist from Mohamed El Sayed, reigniting hopes of a comeback.
Despite sustained pressure from Egypt afterwards, Morocco’s defense held firm until the final whistle, ending the match 2-1.
Ziad Saudi’s Goal Secures Second Place For Egypt
Although Egypt lost the match, Ziad Saudi’s goal proved decisive in the final group standings. Before the goal, Egypt risked dropping in the table due to being level on points with other teams, but the goal improved Egypt’s goals scored and goal difference, which ultimately secured second place for the team.
Without this goal, Egypt would not have been able to finish as group runners-up or guarantee qualification to the quarter-finals and the World Cup, making it the turning point of their campaign.
Morocco finished top of the group with 7 points, while Egypt came second with 4 points, edging out Ethiopia on goal difference.
Egypt now prepares for a tough quarter-final clash against Côte d’Ivoire on May 24, in a major test for a young generation aiming to continue their continental and global journey despite a difficult start.
