Al Ahly Reach BAL Basketball Semifinals After Dramatic Win Over Ville de Dakar

Al Ahly’s qualification for the Basketball Africa League BAL semifinals was not just a routine passage to a new stage of the competition. It was a clear statement of a team that knows how to rise in difficult moments, turn pressure into strength, and transform defeat into fresh motivation to compete for the title.
The Red Devils went into their clash against Senegal’s Ville de Dakar knowing there was no room for complicated calculations, after losing the first leg by just three points, 93-90. That left Al Ahly needing a strong enough victory to put their campaign back on track. Despite a difficult start in the return game, Al Ahly produced one of their most important performances of the tournament, turning the match around to secure a valuable 87-76 win and book their place among Africa’s top four.
A shaky start and a champion’s response
Al Ahly did not begin the game in the way their fans had hoped, as Ville de Dakar managed to impose their rhythm in the first quarter and ended it ahead 18-15. The Senegalese side continued to hold a slight advantage by halftime, leading 34-28.
But what happened after the break revealed the real difference between a team chasing a surprise and another with major tournament experience. Al Ahly returned from the locker room looking completely different: sharper defensively, faster in transition, and more capable of punishing Ville de Dakar’s mistakes.
In the third quarter, the turning point began to take shape clearly. Al Ahly reduced the gap before moving ahead 60-59, a moment that seemed to reignite the players’ confidence and shift the momentum firmly toward the Egyptian side.
Al Ahly seal it with composure and experience
In the final quarter, Al Ahly did not settle for simply taking the lead. They took full control of the game’s details, handled the decisive minutes with great composure, and gradually widened the gap, benefiting from their attacking variety and defensive solidity, before closing out the match with an important 87-76 victory.
The win was significant not only because it secured Al Ahly’s qualification, but also because it came after a complicated scenario that demanded character, resilience, and the ability to handle pressure. The team made up for their first-leg defeat and came out on top over the two games, proving that the earlier setback was only a temporary stumble on a much longer road.
This qualification also builds on a strong campaign by Al Ahly in the tournament. After starting with a narrow defeat against Tunisia’s Club Africain, the team quickly regained balance and went on to record a series of victories over Ville de Dakar, MBB, Kriol Star, and FUS Rabat, confirming their status as one of the leading contenders for the title.
Al Ahly are now not only representing Egyptian basketball in the BAL semifinals; they have become a genuine project capable of challenging for Africa’s basketball throne. With the character of champions, the experience of their players, and the ambition of the coaching staff, the Red Devils’ journey now points to a dream bigger than qualification alone: reaching the final and lifting the trophy.
