Egypt head into their second match of the 2026 World Cup against New Zealand with a clear message from head coach Hossam Hassan: stay focused on the tournament and ignore everything happening off the pitch.
After earning an encouraging 1-1 draw against Belgium in their opening Group Seven match, Egypt have given themselves a platform to build on. But inside the camp, there is a growing awareness that strong World Cup performances can quickly bring outside attention from agents, clubs and marketing companies.
During a meeting with the players in recent hours, Hossam Hassan stressed the importance of maintaining full concentration ahead of the New Zealand clash, which could prove decisive in Egypt’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage.
No Room for Distractions
The Egypt coach warned against becoming distracted by outside interest, marketing approaches and commercial opportunities that often emerge during major international tournaments.
The coaching staff are understood to be keen to keep the players focused solely on football as interest grows around several members of the squad following their display against Belgium.
Among those who attracted attention was Emam Ashour, whose goal and energetic performance helped Egypt secure a valuable point in their World Cup opener.
However, the coaching staff believe that any discussions about future moves, agents or commercial opportunities should wait until after the tournament.
The Job Isn't Done
For Hossam Hassan, the priority is clear. Egypt have achieved nothing yet.
While the result against Belgium boosted confidence inside the camp, it did not secure qualification. With New Zealand having shown their own resilience in a 2-2 draw against Iran, the Pharaohs know they cannot afford any drop in focus.
A victory would put Egypt in a strong position heading into the final group-stage match against Iran, while any slip-up could leave qualification hanging in the balance.
That is why the coaching staff are determined to keep the atmosphere inside the camp calm and disciplined as Egypt prepare for one of the most important matches of their World Cup campaign.
For now, Hossam Hassan wants his players thinking about only one thing: New Zealand.
