After Zamalek's Approval... Hossam Abdelmaguid Nears Move to the Bulgarian League

Zamalek are close to completing one of their most significant deals of the summer transfer window after reaching an agreement with Bulgarian club Ludogorets for the transfer of defender Hossam Abdelmaguid. The move will give the Egyptian international his first opportunity to play in European football while securing a substantial financial return for the Cairo giants.
World Cup Performances Pave the Way for Europe
Negotiations between the two clubs gathered pace following Abdelmaguid's impressive performances with Egypt at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The defender has reportedly finalized all personal terms with Ludogorets, while Zamalek have also approved the transfer. Only the final paperwork and contract signing remain before the player travels to Bulgaria to undergo his medical.
The deal carries a guaranteed transfer fee of €1.5 million, with performance-related bonuses that could increase the total value to €1.75 million, including an additional €250,000 if Ludogorets qualify for European competitions.
Zamalek Secure Maximum Value from the Deal
Zamalek have also negotiated several clauses to protect their long-term interests. The agreement includes bonus payments linked to Ludogorets' success in European tournaments, while the Egyptian club will retain a 20% sell-on clause if Abdelmaguid is sold in the future for more than €4 million.
The overall package is expected to exceed EGP 100 million, providing a significant financial boost as Zamalek seek to improve liquidity and settle outstanding player salaries ahead of the new season.
Reports also suggest that sporting director John Edward supported the transfer, believing it represents a valuable financial opportunity for the club. An official announcement is now expected within days, with Abdelmaguid set to begin the first European chapter of his professional career.
