Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet has closed his short return spell with Al Ahly and opened a new chapter in Saudi Arabia after Al Riyadh officially announced his signing on a free transfer ahead of the 2026-27 Saudi Pro League season.

The move represents more than just a change of shirt for the Egyptian winger. It comes at a crucial stage of his career, as he looks to rediscover the form that made him one of Egypt’s most recognizable players during his years playing abroad in England, Turkey, Belgium and Qatar.

A New Chapter After Al Ahly

Trezeguet’s departure from Al Ahly followed an agreement between the two sides to terminate his contract and settle the financial matters involved, bringing an end to his return to his boyhood club after just one season.

During his latest spell with Al Ahly, the Egyptian winger made 32 appearances across all competitions, scoring 18 goals and providing one assist. However, he ended the campaign without adding a new trophy to his collection.

Trezeguet also featured for Egypt at the 2026 World Cup, where he scored once and provided an assist, before moving to another Arab football experience following his previous spell with Qatar’s Al Rayyan during the 2024-25 season.

Al Riyadh Expecting an Attacking Boost

Joining Al Riyadh presents a different challenge. The club finished 15th in the previous Saudi Pro League campaign, narrowly securing its top-flight status. Trezeguet’s role will therefore be closely linked to providing an attacking boost capable of helping the team move away from the relegation battle and achieve a stronger position this season.

Trezeguet is not Al Riyadh’s only summer signing, with Uruguayan defender Rodrigo Abascal joining before him. The Egyptian’s move was completed after the club fulfilled the necessary registration requirements and cleared the obstacles that had delayed the deal.
