Al Ahly Hit by Major Blow Before the New Season as Belammari Suffers ACL Injury

Al Ahly have suffered a major setback during their preseason camp in Spain after left-back Youssef Belammari was diagnosed with an ACL tear, adding to the team's concerns ahead of the new season.
Belammari sustained the injury during Al Ahly's friendly against Spanish side Badalona, which ended in a 3-0 victory for the Egyptian club. The player subsequently underwent medical examinations and an MRI scan that confirmed the severity of the injury.
An Injury That Changes Al Ahly's Plans
Belammari initially suffered a knee sprain during the Badalona match, but further medical tests revealed the more serious diagnosis of an ACL tear.
Al Ahly's medical staff confirmed that the player will undergo surgery, with the club currently working on determining the date of the procedure. Belammari will then begin a lengthy rehabilitation program as he works toward a return to competitive football.
The Moroccan defender joined Al Ahly in January 2026 on a three-and-a-half-year contract. Since his arrival, he has made 19 appearances across all competitions.
A 3-0 Win in Spain Followed by Bad News
The injury announcement came shortly after Al Ahly secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Badalona in their first friendly match of the Spanish training camp.
Ali Mahmoud, Aqtay Abdullah and Ahmed Zizo scored for Al Ahly, while striker Sofiane Benjdida missed a penalty during the first half.
Al Ahly's training camp in Spain will continue until August 20, with the team scheduled to face Barcelona on August 19 in the Joan Gamper Trophy before beginning their Egyptian Premier League campaign.
Belammari's injury presents the coaching staff with another challenge during the final stages of preseason, particularly with the start of official competitions approaching and the team now facing the absence of one of its options at left-back.
