The upcoming Spanish Super Cup will look different even before the action begins, as the tournament is set to leave Saudi Arabia and move to Istanbul, Turkey, opening a new chapter in the competition’s history.

Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, announced Riyadh Season’s sponsorship of the 2027 Spanish Super Cup, while reports confirmed that Istanbul will host the matches, with the Ataturk Olympic Stadium set to stage the competition.

Istanbul Joins the List of Spanish Super Cup Hosts

The tournament is scheduled for the first week of February 2027, after Saudi Arabia was unable to host the upcoming edition because its dates overlap with the Asian Cup, which is scheduled to take place from January 7 to February 5.

Turkey will therefore become the third country outside Spain to host the Spanish Super Cup, following Saudi Arabia and Morocco, giving the competition a new international setting.

The Ataturk Olympic Stadium will host the matches. The venue has a strong connection with major European football events, having staged the UEFA Champions League final in 2005 and 2023.

The upcoming edition will feature Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad. Barcelona enter the tournament as Spanish league champions, while Real Sociedad qualify as Copa del Rey winners.
