Egypt Choose Tanzania Friendly as Part of AFCON 2027 Qualifying Preparations

Egypt are continuing to shape their plans for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with head coach Hossam Hassan and his staff settling on a friendly against Tanzania in Cairo on October 5 as part of the Pharaohs' preparations for their upcoming continental campaign.
The friendly will take place only days after Egypt play their opening two matches in the AFCON 2027 qualifiers, starting with a home clash against Angola before travelling to Juba to face South Sudan.
The technical staff will also use the upcoming period to reorganise the squad following Egypt's 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, where the Pharaohs reached the Round of 16 for the first time before losing 3-2 to Argentina.
September Camp
Egypt's training camp is scheduled to begin on September 17 ahead of their opening AFCON qualifying fixtures, with Angola providing the Pharaohs' first competitive test on September 25.
Cairo International Stadium will host the match at 10:00 PM, before Egypt travel to South Sudan for their second qualifier at Juba National Stadium on September 29, with kick-off scheduled for 3:00 PM.
Following those two competitive fixtures, Tanzania will provide another opportunity for Hossam Hassan to assess his squad and maintain the players' match readiness when the two teams meet in Cairo on October 5.
Qualification Path
Egypt were drawn in Group B alongside Angola, South Sudan and Malawi, with the Pharaohs targeting a strong start that could give them an early advantage in the race for qualification.
After the September fixtures, Egypt will face Malawi twice between November 9 and 17, 2026, before completing their qualifying campaign in March 2027 against South Sudan and Angola.
The qualification system features 48 national teams divided into 12 groups of four, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the finals.
Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will jointly host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations in a historic edition staged across three countries from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
Facing Tanzania therefore offers Egypt an opportunity to test themselves against one of the tournament's host nations, as Hossam Hassan looks to build consistency and prepare his squad for the decisive stages of the qualifying campaign.
