Egypt's women's volleyball team continued its impressive run at the African Championship in Kenya, securing a place in the semifinals after a convincing straight-sets victory over Tunisia in the quarterfinals.

The result confirmed Egypt's status as one of the leading contenders for the continental title and extended the team's remarkable winning streak to 16 consecutive matches. It also moved the Egyptian side another step closer to competing for direct qualification to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The victory over Tunisia was the latest chapter in an excellent tournament for Egypt, who remain unbeaten and have handled every challenge successfully on their way to the final four.

Complete Control Against Tunisia

Egypt started strongly against Tunisia and controlled the match from the opening set, winning it 25-20 before producing an even stronger performance in the second set to take it 25-14.

The Egyptian dominance continued in the third set, with Tunisia given little opportunity to fight back. Egypt closed the set 25-9 to complete a 3-0 victory and secure a place among the tournament's final four teams.

The scores across the three sets showed the level of control Egypt enjoyed throughout the match, with the players maintaining their concentration and intensity until the final point.

The result was also consistent with Egypt's performances since the start of the competition. The team finished top of Group B after victories over Uganda, Senegal and Burkina Faso, completing the group stage with a perfect record.

Egypt then continued their winning form in the knockout rounds, defeating Burundi 3-0 in the Round of 16 before recording another straight-sets victory against Tunisia in the quarterfinals.

The Tunisia result extended Egypt's winning streak to 16 consecutive matches, giving the squad further confidence before entering the most decisive stage of the tournament.

Rwanda Stand Between Egypt and Final

Egypt will face Rwanda in the semifinals, with the winner earning a place in the African Championship final and moving one victory away from lifting the continental trophy.

The tournament carries extra importance because the African title is not the only prize at stake. The champion will also earn direct qualification to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, making every match in the closing stages vital to Egypt's Olympic ambitions.

The African Women's Volleyball Championship is being held in Kenya from August 23 to September 5, 2026, with 16 national teams competing for the title and the direct Olympic qualification place.

Egypt are looking to add another continental trophy to their history after winning the African women's volleyball title three times in the past. Their performances in Kenya have increased expectations that the team can remain in contention until the final match.

The Egyptian delegation has also received support from the country's embassy in Kenya throughout the tournament. Egyptian Ambassador to Kenya Hatem Yousry has been following the delegation and helping provide the necessary support during its stay.

Hamdy Nour El-Din Mansour, head of the Egyptian delegation and a member of the Egyptian Volleyball Federation board, praised the players' performance against Tunisia. He also stressed that attention will quickly turn to the semifinal, with the coaching staff working to prepare the squad physically, technically and mentally.

The technical and administrative staff includes head coach Emad El-Din Mohamed Nawar, assistant coach Ahmed Saad El-Din Abu El-Atta, technical analyst Abdelrahman Ibrahim Hussein, physiotherapist Dr. Somaya Nageh Abdelaziz and administrative manager Ehab Hussein Abdelmonem, with Hamdy Nour El-Din Mansour leading the delegation.

Egypt's squad includes Dana Ahmed Shawky, Sara Ahmed Amin, Nada Walid Eissa, Aya Khaled Mohamed, Mai Mahmoud Abdelmegid, Habiba Mohamed Zaatar, Nourallah Yassin Amin, Mariam Mohamed Metwally, Tokaallah Medhat Eissa, Dalia Ashraf Morshedy, Nada Walid Morgan, Nada Hossam El-Din Moawad, Doaa Mohamed Abdelghany and Zeina Tamer El-Alamy.

Egypt are now only one victory away from reaching the final. However, the semifinal against Rwanda will require the same level of focus and intensity, especially as the level of competition continues to rise in the decisive stages.
