Emam Ashour’s return to competitive action with Al Ahly appears set to be delayed once again, after head coach Hussein Ammouta revealed that the midfielder still needs additional work before being considered fully ready for official matches.

Ashour has been absent from competitive action for an extended period, with Al Ahly’s coaching staff refusing to rush one of their key midfielders back despite his importance to the team.

Three or Four Friendlies Before His Return

Speaking after Al Ahly’s 1-0 Egyptian Premier League victory over Smouha, Ammouta explained that Ashour may need to feature in three or four friendly matches before being cleared for competitive action.

The coaching staff wants to gradually restore the midfielder’s match rhythm, with his lengthy absence making an immediate return to official competition an unnecessary risk.

Al Ahly are also looking to arrange friendly matches following competitive fixtures whenever possible, allowing players short of minutes to improve their fitness. The plan is not limited to Ashour, with other squad members also requiring additional playing time.

Abdominal Pain Is Not the Main Concern

Ashour missed the final training session before the Smouha match after experiencing abdominal discomfort. However, indications from inside the club suggest the problem is not serious, with his overall physical condition remaining the main factor delaying his comeback.

Ammouta wants the midfielder to reach full medical and physical readiness before bringing him back into the team and has no intention of accelerating the process simply because the injury itself has improved.

Could Ashour Return Before the International Break?

Despite potentially needing several friendly appearances, the possibility of an earlier return has not been completely ruled out. Ammouta indicated that Ashour could feature before the upcoming international break if his fitness improves sufficiently.

His comeback therefore depends on his response to the rehabilitation and fitness program rather than a predetermined date, as the coaching staff continues to prioritize readiness when selecting players.

Al Ahly secured a difficult 1-0 victory over Smouha through Yasser Ibrahim’s winning goal, extending their run of league victories as supporters wait for Ashour to complete his recovery and strengthen the midfield once again.
