Anfield witnesses the end: Liverpool fall despite Salah’s appearance as Dembele leads PSG into the semi-finals

Liverpool exited the UEFA Champions League at the quarter-final stage after losing 2-0 to Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg at Anfield. The French side confirmed their complete superiority after winning the first leg by the same score, securing a 4-0 aggregate victory and a place in the semi-finals.
Liverpool went into the match holding on to hopes of a comeback and tried to apply early pressure in an attempt to change the course of the tie, but things did not go as the home side had hoped. The challenge became even harder after Mohamed Salah was introduced early on in an enforced change following Hugo Ekitike’s injury, in an attempt to add pace and energy to the front line, but the team could not turn that into a real advantage on the pitch.
Liverpool’s Attempts
Liverpool looked for a way through PSG’s defense in more than one way, whether through direct pressure or movement down the flanks, but the French side played with clear composure and managed to impose their rhythm for long periods of the match. As time went on, Paris appeared more compact in their positioning and more capable of absorbing Liverpool’s pressure without losing their balance.
Mohamed Salah also had a number of moments in which he tried to give his team an attacking spark, but the game continued to follow the pattern Paris Saint-Germain wanted, especially as they succeeded in limiting Liverpool’s threat and closing down space in the key areas.
Paris Take Control
In the second half, Paris Saint-Germain turned their superiority into a first goal scored by Ousmane Dembele after a well-worked move, putting Liverpool in a more difficult position and increasing the pressure on the English side in the remaining minutes.
As Liverpool pushed forward in search of a way back, more space opened up at the back, and Paris Saint-Germain made the most of it. In stoppage time, Dembele struck again to confirm the end of the contest and send his team through to the semi-finals.
Liverpool’s exit was not just the result of what happened at Anfield, but rather an extension of Paris Saint-Germain’s clear superiority across both legs. The French side looked more prepared in managing the details and more effective in making the most of their key moments, while Liverpool could not find the right response over the two matches.
With this victory, Paris Saint-Germain continues their European campaign with confidence, while Liverpool brings their run in the competition to an end after a tie that highlighted the difference in organization and the ability to decide key moments at the right time.
