Al Ahly’s first handball team wrapped up their domestic season in the Professional Handball League in the best possible way, claiming a big 31-22 victory over arch-rivals Zamalek in the derby clash held in the final round of the competition’s decisive stage.
A Derby Without Calculations.. Al Ahly Play with the Spirit of Champions
Although Al Ahly entered the match having already secured the title two rounds before the end, the Red Eagles treated the derby as if the championship was still on the line. Their performance confirmed that the title was not just a matter of numbers, but a clear reflection of technical quality, physical superiority, and consistency throughout the season.
Al Ahly started the match with great focus and quickly imposed their rhythm against Zamalek, ending the first half ahead 16-13. At the start of the second half, Zamalek tried to fight back and reduce the gap, but Al Ahly maintained their balance and gradually widened the lead, relying on solid defending and quick attacking transitions before sealing the game by a nine-goal margin.
The victory over Zamalek did not only shape the final scene of the league campaign; it also offered another strong confirmation of Al Ahly’s deserved title win. The team completed the final stage with a perfect record, winning 14 matches out of 14 and reaching 42 points without a single slip in this decisive phase.
Meanwhile, Zamalek finished the competition in second place with 35 points, while Smouha came third with 24 points, following the conclusion of a competitive stage that featured eight teams playing in a two-round league format.
The League Is Over.. and the Egypt Cup Opens a New Battle
Al Ahly’s ability to combine strong results with remarkable consistency deserves recognition this season. The Professional League title was not the team’s only achievement, having also won the Egyptian Super Cup and the African Champions League, continuing an exceptional campaign under Spanish head coach David Davis.
Al Ahly have now lifted the league title for the 27th time in their history, while also maintaining their dominance over the competition for the fourth consecutive season, further underlining their control over Egyptian handball in recent years.
After closing the league chapter, attention quickly turns to the Egypt Cup, where Al Ahly will face Heliopolis on Wednesday, April 29, at Hassan Mostafa Sports Hall in 6th of October City. Zamalek, meanwhile, will take on Olympic in the other semi-final, with the final and third-place match scheduled for Thursday, April 30, at the same venue.
Between an early league triumph, a commanding derby victory, and a new date with the Egypt Cup, Al Ahly appear unwilling to settle for simply being crowned champions. Instead, they continue to send a clear message to their rivals: the season is not over yet, and the Red ambition remains open for more.
