The mood inside Egypt's camp has lifted significantly after encouraging updates emerged on the fitness of several key players ahead of next Friday's FIFA World Cup Round of 32 clash against Australia.

While Mohamed Salah's substitution during the 1-1 draw with Iran initially sparked fears of a lengthy absence, the latest indications suggest the Liverpool captain remains on course to feature in one of Egypt's biggest matches in World Cup history.

Positive Signs for Salah

Salah has already begun his rehabilitation programme after experiencing discomfort in his hamstring during the Iran match. According to reports from the Egypt camp, the injury appears to be minor after the forward immediately asked to be substituted, helping prevent any further damage.

The Egyptian captain is scheduled to undergo another scan on Sunday, with the medical staff expected to make a final decision once the results are available. Early assessments, however, have increased optimism that he will be ready to face Australia.

Shobier Offers Encouraging Update

Egyptian broadcaster Ahmed Shobier added to that optimism by revealing that Mohamed Salah, Mohamed Abdelmonem and Hossam Abdelmaguid are all expected to recover in time for the Round of 32.

Shobier also said Hamdi Fathy is edging closer to a return, while Ahmed Fattouh remains the biggest concern after his injury against Iran, with the left-back still awaiting medical scans before his condition can be fully assessed.

Even if several players recover, Egypt will definitely be without midfielder Mohannad Lasheen, who is suspended after accumulating yellow cards during the group stage.

With Egypt chasing a first-ever place in the World Cup Round of 16, the coming days could determine whether Hossam Hassan has close to a full-strength squad available for the historic meeting with Australia.
