Egypt Women’s Volleyball Reign Supreme in Africa.. Continental Title and Historic Qualification for the 2028 Olympics

Egypt’s women’s volleyball team wrote a new chapter in the country’s sporting history after winning the 2026 African Championship with an impressive 3-0 victory over hosts Kenya in the final in Nairobi.
The victory was much more than an African title. Egypt also secured a historic place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games for the first time, while the team also qualified for the 2027 Women’s World Championship.
The triumph returned Egypt to the top of African women’s volleyball after a long wait. Their previous continental title came in 2003, making the success in Nairobi an important comeback more than two decades later.
A Flawless Final
Egypt entered the final against Kenya with confidence and showed no signs of pressure despite facing the host nation in front of its home supporters.
The Egyptian team made a strong start and won the first set 25-21 before taking complete control of the second set, which ended 25-15.
Egypt maintained the same level in the third set and gave Kenya little chance to fight back. The Egyptians closed it out 25-16 to complete a straight-sets victory and secure the African crown.
The result also carried extra meaning for Egypt after Kenya had defeated the Egyptian team in the final of the 2023 edition. This time, Egypt reversed the result and left Nairobi as African champions.
The victory gave Egypt its fourth African women’s volleyball title and confirmed the team’s return to the top level of the continental game.
From Nairobi to Los Angeles
Egypt’s success was not based only on its performance in the final. The team produced an outstanding campaign throughout the tournament, winning every match without dropping a single set.
Egypt started its journey with victories over Burkina Faso, Senegal and Uganda in the group stage before beating Burundi in the Round of 16 and Tunisia in the quarter-finals.
The strong run continued in the semi-final, where Egypt defeated Rwanda 3-0. Reaching the final also secured the team’s place at the 2027 Women’s World Championship.
Kenya, meanwhile, reached the final after beating Cameroon 3-0 in the semi-finals, but the hosts were unable to stop an Egyptian side playing with confidence and consistency.
Winning the African title completed an even bigger achievement as Egypt secured its historic qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
With an African title after a long absence, qualification for the 2027 World Championship and a first Olympic appearance now on the horizon, Egypt left Nairobi with much more than a gold medal.
The tournament could mark the beginning of a new era for Egyptian women’s volleyball, with the team now preparing to take its continental success onto the biggest international stages.
