Egypt's national men's basketball team has arrived in Luanda for the third window of the 2027 FIBA World Cup African Qualifiers, knowing only a strong run of results will keep the Pharaohs' qualification hopes alive.

Egyptian Support in Luanda

The Egyptian delegation was welcomed by Egypt's Ambassador to Angola, Nevine El-Husseiny, who greeted the players and staff and attended part of the team's training session. She reaffirmed the embassy's full support for the national team throughout its qualification campaign, highlighting the importance of this stage in Egypt's basketball journey.

Egypt enters the third qualification window under the leadership of Spanish head coach Augusti Bosch, who described the upcoming games as the team's most important opportunity to get its World Cup campaign back on track. Bosch insisted Egypt must win its remaining games to stay firmly in contention for a place at the 2027 FIBA World Cup.

Bosch: Victory Is a Must

The Spanish coach explained that the team gained valuable experience from the previous qualification window held in Egypt, particularly in understanding the strengths and weaknesses of their opponents and identifying areas that require improvement within the squad. He stressed that the coaching staff has spent the past weeks addressing those issues and preparing the players in the best possible way.

The Egyptian delegation in Luanda is headed by Tarek El-Saeed, Vice President of the Egyptian Basketball Federation. The squad selected for the qualifiers includes Amr El-Gendy, Assem Marei, Omar Tarek, Anas Osama, Ehab Amin, Mohamed Taha, Bibo Zahran, Adam Moussa, Ismail Massoud, Khaled Abdelnasser, Yassin Sheikho, and Hamad Fathy.

The technical and administrative staff is led by Augusti Bosch, alongside Alfred Bosch, Wael Badr, and Rami Geneidy, in addition to the team's medical, performance analysis, recovery, and administrative personnel.

Strong Preparations for the Pharaohs

Before traveling to Angola, the Egyptian team completed an intensive preparation camp at the Dr. Hassan Mostafa Sports Hall, which included rigorous technical and physical training sessions, as well as several strong friendly matches. Among them was an impressive 106-64 victory over Libya, a result that provided encouraging signs regarding the team's readiness.

Egyptian basketball fans now turn their attention to Luanda, where the national team faces a decisive challenge from July 1 to July 5 in an effort to revive its dream of qualifying for the 2027 FIBA World Cup. The coming days could define Egypt's qualification campaign, with the Pharaohs needing a strong showing in Luanda to remain in contention for a World Cup place.
