Egyptian talk show host Ahmed Moussa has called on Egyptian Football Association president and FIFA Council member Hany Abo Rida to run for the FIFA presidency, saying he believes the Egyptian football official would receive widespread backing from African nations amid growing criticism of current FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

Calls for Abo Rida's Candidacy

Speaking on his programme on Sada El Balad, Moussa said Egypt has influential figures serving in major international organisations and argued that the country should now aim for football's highest office.

"Why shouldn't Egypt compete for the FIFA presidency?" Moussa said, adding that all 54 African football associations would support Abo Rida if he decided to run.

Moussa also praised Abo Rida's long-standing role within world football, noting that he has served on FIFA's executive bodies since 2005 and describing him as one of Egypt's most experienced football administrators.

Criticism of Infantino

The Egyptian presenter also predicted that Gianni Infantino would not remain in office, claiming opposition to the FIFA president was growing in both Europe and Africa.

Moussa linked his criticism to the refereeing controversy surrounding Egypt's World Cup defeat to Argentina. He also accused FIFA of allowing politics and commercial interests to influence football, claiming the organisation had shifted away from its role of bringing nations together through the sport.

Neither Hany Abo Rida nor FIFA has publicly commented on Moussa's remarks.
