Egyptian international Haytham Hassan is closing in on a new chapter in his professional career, with Scottish giants Celtic nearing an agreement to sign the Real Oviedo winger in a deal that could see him move to the Scottish league on a contract running until the summer of 2030.

Negotiations between the two clubs have made significant progress in recent hours, with reports indicating that the deal has entered its final stages, although some financial and contractual details still need to be settled before the transfer can be officially announced.

Haytham Hassan’s Absence Fuels Exit Speculation

Haytham Hassan’s omission from Real Oviedo’s squad for their friendly against French side Le Havre has further fueled speculation over his imminent departure from the Spanish club, with the Egyptian winger left out of the squad despite being fit and with no indication that an injury was behind his absence.

Celtic are pushing to complete the deal, while Oviedo are reportedly holding firm on the €12 million release clause. Villarreal, Hassan’s former club, are also entitled to receive 40% of any future transfer fee, according to reports from Spain.

Other reports suggest that Celtic’s offer could be worth around £9 million, with negotiations continuing over several final clauses and financial incentives.

Celtic’s interest comes after Hassan made 38 appearances for Real Oviedo last season, providing three assists without scoring.

Despite Oviedo’s relegation to Spain’s second tier after just one season in La Liga, Hassan remained one of the players to attract attention, particularly following his performances with the Egypt national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Egyptian winger featured in two matches at the tournament and made a notable impact against Argentina, providing an assist and scoring a goal that was later ruled out following a VAR review.
