Omar Marmoush’s high salary has emerged as one of the main obstacles to a potential departure from Manchester City, despite the Egyptian forward being linked with a move to Tottenham during the current summer transfer window.

The issue is not simply how much Manchester City would demand for the player. The bigger concern is the overall financial package required from any club willing to sign him, including his substantial weekly salary, agent commissions and other costs associated with the transfer.

Marmoush’s salary creates a difficult equation for Tottenham

According to the figures cited by the sources, Marmoush earns close to £295,000 per week, making him the highest-paid African player in the Premier League following Mohamed Salah’s departure from the competition.

That figure highlights the financial commitment awaiting any club interested in signing the Manchester City forward, particularly because the cost of the deal would go well beyond the transfer fee itself.

The situation is even more complicated for Tottenham with reports putting Marmoush’s weekly wage at close to £300,000, while the club is looking to strengthen its attack before the transfer window closes on September 1.

The high cost comes at a time when Marmoush’s role at Manchester City remains uncertain. According to one of the sources, he started only eight Premier League matches during the 2025-26 season, fueling speculation that he could consider leaving in search of more regular playing time.

Agent fees push up the bill and delay the transfer

Marmoush’s salary is not the only financial obstacle. Estimates cited by the sources suggest that additional costs, including agent fees and other commitments, could reach around £20 million on top of the transfer fee itself.

That would turn the Marmoush deal into a major financial investment for Tottenham. The club would not simply be paying to acquire the player; it would also have to cover his substantial salary and additional expenses, making the overall cost significantly higher than the headline transfer fee.

For this reason, Keith Wyness, Everton’s former chief executive, believes a move to Tottenham would be extremely difficult and expects Marmoush to remain at Manchester City for another season.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have a potentially cheaper alternative in Monaco striker Folarin Balogun. The forward scored 19 goals in all competitions last season and could allow Spurs to preserve more of their budget for strengthening other areas.

As a result, Marmoush’s future may depend less on Tottenham’s interest or his desire for more playing time and more on the heavy financial calculations that have become the biggest obstacle to his departure from Manchester City.
