Egypt continued to strengthen its presence on the podium at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games after Samar Hamza claimed wrestling gold in the women’s 76kg category, taking the Egyptian delegation’s overall medal tally to 15.

Hamza secured the title following a competitive final against Turkey’s Kadriye Kucak, defeating her 5-3 to add another major success for Egyptian wrestling and deliver Egypt’s fifth gold medal of the Games.

Samar’s Gold

Samar Hamza entered the final determined to complete her campaign in style, but she faced a tough Turkish opponent in a closely contested bout.

The Egyptian wrestler handled the pressure effectively and managed to secure a 5-3 victory, earning the gold medal in the 76kg division and underlining Egypt’s strong presence in wrestling.

Her triumph was more than an individual achievement, as it arrived at an important stage of the competition and helped Egypt increase its overall medal count.

Egypt’s Medal Haul

Following Hamza’s victory, Egypt’s tally reached 15 medals — five gold, four silver and six bronze — as the delegation continues its campaign in Taranto.

Egypt is competing across 23 sports, including wrestling, fencing, swimming, athletics, boxing, judo, karate, weightlifting, shooting, rowing, gymnastics, handball, volleyball and 3x3 basketball, among others.

The 20th edition of the Mediterranean Games runs until September 3 and features 3,803 athletes representing 26 countries, giving Egypt further opportunities to add to its medal total.

Egypt also holds an impressive historical record in the Mediterranean Games, ranking sixth on the all-time medal table with 620 medals: 156 gold, 209 silver and 255 bronze.

Hamza’s gold provides another boost for the Egyptian delegation in Taranto, with attention now turning to the remaining events as Egypt looks to push its medal tally even higher before the Games conclude.
