Mohamed Salah and Fabinho could be set to write a new chapter in their football story, with the Brazilian midfielder moving closer to reuniting with the Egyptian star at Trabzonspor after years of success together at Liverpool.

Fabinho arrived in Trabzon ahead of completing the procedures surrounding his potential move, bringing back memories of Salah’s farewell message when the Brazilian left Liverpool for Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2023.

At the time, Salah wished his former teammate well and suggested that they would meet again soon. More than three years later, those words are now back in the spotlight.

Salah remained with Liverpool during the following seasons, while Fabinho continued his career in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ittihad. Their paths have now brought them closer together again, this time in Turkey.

A Trophy-Winning Partnership

Salah and Fabinho were far more than two players who simply happened to share a dressing room at Liverpool. They were key members of one of the club’s most successful teams of the modern era.

Salah arrived at Anfield in 2017, while Fabinho joined a year later. Their partnership continued until the Brazilian midfielder left for Al-Ittihad in 2023.

The pair spent more than 14,000 minutes on the pitch together for Liverpool, fulfilling very different but equally important roles. Salah was one of the team’s main attacking weapons, while Fabinho provided balance, defensive protection and control in midfield.

Together, they contributed to a trophy-laden era that included Premier League and UEFA Champions League glory, as well as the FIFA Club World Cup and several other domestic and continental honours.

Their connection also produced memorable moments on the pitch, including Fabinho setting up Salah during a high-profile Premier League meeting with Manchester City.

A Promise Fulfilled

Fabinho’s departure from Liverpool in 2023 appeared to bring his partnership with Salah to an end, but the Egyptian’s farewell message has taken on a new meaning following the latest developments.

In Liverpool’s farewell video for Fabinho, Salah told his friend that he expected to see him again soon. Those words initially fuelled speculation because Salah himself was being linked with a possible move to Saudi Arabia at the time.

The eventual scenario, however, unfolded in the opposite direction. Salah did not follow Fabinho to Saudi Arabia; instead, the Brazilian is now moving closer to joining Salah in Turkey.

During their years apart, Salah and Fabinho faced each other only once at international level. Trabzonspor could now reunite them in the same dressing room for the first time since their Liverpool days.

From their memories at Anfield to a possible new adventure in Trabzon, the reunion would represent more than another transfer story. It would bring back together two important figures from Liverpool’s modern golden era and turn a simple farewell promise from more than three years ago into a remarkable football reality.
