The change came because matches and events cannot be staged at Cairo Stadium on September 1 and 2.

Egyptian Premier League football has not been suspended nationwide on those dates, with other fixtures still set to take place at different venues. What stands out is the specific unavailability of Cairo International Stadium before it becomes available again for Al Ahly just one day later.

A Mysterious Grand Egyptian Museum Closure

Another development has added to the mystery.

The Grand Egyptian Museum will close to visitors on Wednesday, September 2 before reopening as normal afterwards.

Tourism companies were informed of the closure earlier in August, while Grand Egyptian Museum Authority CEO Ahmed Ghoneim later confirmed the decision and said the reason would be announced “in due course,” without providing further details.

The fact that the closure applies to just one day makes the timing particularly notable, especially as it falls within the period of Xi Jinping’s visit to Egypt.

Could the Chinese President’s Visit Explain It?

Days after the stadium change and museum closure emerged, China’s Foreign Ministry announced that President Xi Jinping will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek and pay state visits to Kyrgyzstan and Egypt between August 30 and September 3 at the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov.

For now, therefore, the Chinese president’s visit remains a possible explanation rather than a confirmed reason.
