Egypt international Mohamed Abdelmonem made his long-awaited official return for Nice after nearly 492 days away from competitive action, although his comeback came in a 3-0 defeat against Paris in the second round of the 2026-27 Ligue 1 season.

Abdelmonem started the match at Stade Jean-Bouin and remained on the pitch until the 73rd minute, marking his first official appearance after a lengthy spell away from competitive football.

Long-Awaited Return

The Egyptian defender’s comeback did not produce the result Nice had hoped for, as Paris took control of the game and converted their chances.

Lassine Sinayoko opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 21st minute, before Samir Chergui doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 51st minute.

Vincent Marchetti then completed the 3-0 victory with a third goal in the 89th minute, ending Nice’s hopes of a comeback.

Strong Numbers Despite Defeat

Despite his team’s difficult result, Abdelmonem produced an encouraging individual performance and received a rating of 7.1 out of 10.

He also recovered possession three times, registered five defensive contributions and successfully won the ball from an opponent on three of four attempts.

Abdelmonem recorded 93 touches and one shot during his 73 minutes on the pitch, delivering a positive individual display in his first competitive appearance after such a long absence.

The defeat left Nice with one point and in 17th place in the Ligue 1 standings, while Paris moved up to third with four points.

Regardless of the result, Abdelmonem’s return after 492 days was the major positive for the Egyptian defender, particularly after producing encouraging numbers in his first official test back on the pitch.
