Egyptian young striker Hamza Abdelkarim has written a new chapter in his professional career after making his official first-team debut for Barcelona during the La Liga clash against Rayo Vallecano.

Abdelkarim entered the game in the closing stages when German head coach Hansi Flick introduced him as a substitute for Brazilian winger Raphinha in the 86th minute, making him the first Egyptian player to appear in an official match for Barcelona’s senior team.

His appearance was about much more than a few late minutes in a match Barcelona had already taken control of. It represented a historic moment for the Egyptian youngster, who has moved from youth football to representing one of the biggest clubs in the world in La Liga within a relatively short period.

Abdelkarim initially joined Barcelona from Egyptian giants Al Ahly on loan and began his Spanish adventure with the club’s youth setup.

Barcelona activated the option to sign the Egyptian striker permanently during the summer, allowing him to continue his development at the club on a contract running until June 2029, according to reports covering the details of his move.
