Double Karate Gold for Egypt in Taranto as Feryal Ashraf and Rahma Tolba Triumph

Egypt continued its strong run at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games after winning four more medals, including two golds and two bronzes, across karate, gymnastics and athletics.

The new medals came through Feryal Ashraf and Rahma Tolba in karate, Omar El Araby in gymnastics and Mohamed Magdy in athletics, taking Egypt’s total medal tally at the Games to 48.

Karate Golds

Rahma Tolba delivered a strong performance in the women’s under-61kg karate competition and reached the final, where she secured the gold medal against Turkey’s Fatma Naz.

The Egyptian athlete controlled the final and claimed an impressive 8-0 victory, giving Egypt another gold medal and continuing the delegation’s successful campaign in Taranto.

Egypt’s success in karate did not stop there, as Olympic champion Feryal Ashraf also reached the top of the podium.

Feryal won gold in the 68kg category after defeating Italy’s Silvia Semeraro in the final, adding another major achievement to her international career and another gold medal to Egypt’s tally.

The two karate gold medals gave the Egyptian delegation an important boost as the country continues its push for more podium finishes during the remaining events.

Gymnastics and Athletics Bronzes

In gymnastics, Omar El Araby secured the bronze medal in the men’s individual all-around competition after recording a total score of 79.050 points.

His result added another medal for Egyptian gymnastics during a Games in which Egypt is competing across a wide range of sports.

Mohamed Magdy also reached the podium in athletics, earning the bronze medal in the men’s shot put competition.

Magdy recorded a throw of 20.21 metres, with the final positions decided by the difference in attempts. The Egyptian finished third, behind the French athlete who claimed the silver medal.

Following the latest four medals, Egypt’s total at the Mediterranean Games increased to 48 medals: 18 gold, 14 silver and 16 bronze.

Egypt is competing in 23 sports at the Games, including archery, athletics, badminton, 3x3 basketball, boxing, canoeing and kayaking, equestrian events, fencing, aquatic sports and short-course swimming, gymnastics, handball, judo and karate.

The Egyptian delegation is also taking part in padel, rowing, sailing, shooting, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, finswimming and amateur roller sports.

Egypt also has a strong history at the Mediterranean Games and currently ranks sixth among the countries with the most medals in the history of the competition.

According to the figures provided, Egypt’s historic Mediterranean Games tally stands at 620 medals, including 156 gold, 209 silver and 255 bronze medals, with the current delegation continuing to add new achievements to the country’s record.
