Weightlifter Sara Samir Strikes Double Gold in 77kg at Mediterranean Games

Egyptian Olympic champion Sara Samir continued her impressive run at the 2026 Mediterranean Games after winning two more gold medals for Egypt in the weightlifting competitions in Taranto, Italy.
Egypt is taking part in a highly competitive edition of the Games, which brings together 3,803 athletes from 26 countries. The Egyptian delegation has continued to increase its medal total thanks to strong performances across several sports.
Two Golds at 77kg
Sara Samir dominated the women's 77kg weightlifting competitions, winning gold medals in both the snatch and clean and jerk events.
In the snatch, the Egyptian champion successfully lifted 110kg, a result that secured first place and the gold medal.
She then continued her strong performance in the clean and jerk, lifting 137kg to claim her second gold medal of the competition.
The two victories gave Sara Samir a complete gold double in the 77kg category and added another major achievement to her international career.
Her success also provided another important boost for Egypt in the Mediterranean Games medal standings.
Egypt Reaches 50 Medals
Sara Samir's two gold medals increased Egypt's overall medal total at the Games to 50.
The Egyptian delegation has now collected 20 gold medals, 14 silver medals and 16 bronze medals, reflecting a strong overall performance in Taranto.
Egypt is competing in 23 different sports at the 2026 Mediterranean Games as the delegation looks to add more medals before the end of the competition.
The Egyptian team is taking part in archery, athletics, badminton, 3x3 basketball, boxing, canoe and kayak, equestrian events, fencing, aquatics and short-course swimming, gymnastics, handball, judo, karate, padel, rowing, sailing, shooting, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, finswimming and amateur skating.
Sara Samir's double gold in the snatch and clean and jerk gives Egypt another major success in Taranto, with the Egyptian delegation continuing its push for more medals during the remaining events of the 2026 Mediterranean Games.
