Egyptian defender Omar Fayed made his first official appearance for Frosinone in a night of mixed emotions, as he featured against Sassuolo in the Coppa Italia and successfully converted a penalty in the shootout, although his team was eliminated in the Round of 32.

The match gave Fayed his first official opportunity with his new club after joining Frosinone from Turkish side Fenerbahce during the summer transfer window, opening a new chapter in his European career.

Although the result was not what the young Egyptian defender wanted, his debut included several important moments, from coming on in the second half to taking responsibility during the penalty shootout.

First Appearance

Fayed started the game on the bench before being introduced in the 62nd minute, replacing Kevin Akpoguma and playing his first official minutes in a Frosinone shirt.

Sassuolo had taken the lead in the 36th minute through Benjamin Dominguez, but Frosinone responded before half-time when Aleksa Terzic scored the equalizer in stoppage time.

After Fayed entered the match, Frosinone continued to push for a second goal and thought they had found it in the 75th minute through Matteo Cichella.

However, the goal was later ruled out following a VAR review because of a foul earlier in the move, and the score remained level until the end of normal time.

The match therefore went to a penalty shootout to decide which team would advance to the next round of the Coppa Italia.

Penalty and Exit

Fayed did not avoid responsibility during the decisive shootout and stepped forward to take Frosinone's second penalty.

His successful penalty, however, was not enough to send Frosinone through. Two of his teammates failed to score their penalties, allowing Sassuolo to win the shootout 4-3 and secure a place in the Round of 16.

Fayed's first appearance therefore ended with disappointment for Frosinone as a team, but it still provided an important personal starting point for the Egyptian defender.

He received his first official minutes with his new club and also successfully handled one of the most pressured moments of the game by scoring from the penalty spot.

Fayed joined Frosinone from Fenerbahce during the summer transfer window. According to one of the reports, the Italian club completed the deal for around €500,000 and handed the defender a four-year contract running until 2030.

The 23-year-old will now be hoping to earn more playing time and establish himself as a regular option in Frosinone's defense.

His move to Italy represents another important step in his European career, with the defender aiming to continue his development and use the experience as a platform for further progress.

Fayed could soon have another opportunity to feature when Frosinone face Venezia on Sunday, September 6, in the third round of the Italian league campaign.

Although his debut ended with elimination from the Coppa Italia, getting his first minutes and successfully converting a penalty could still provide Fayed with a positive foundation for the next stage of his career in Italy.
