A transfer discussion that lasted only a few minutes became one of the biggest talking points surrounding Emad El-Nahhas’ departure from Al Masry.

The former Al Masry coach has now spoken about his attempt to bring his son, Abdelrahman El-Nahhas, to the club. He confirmed that he suggested the move, but the idea was quickly rejected and the matter ended without a deal.

El-Nahhas decided to explain the situation after his son's name was linked with his sudden departure from Al Masry early in the Egyptian league season.

He insisted that the possible transfer was discussed in July and had nothing to do with the end of his time with the Port Said club.

A Five-Minute Issue

According to El-Nahhas, the conversation about signing his son lasted no more than five minutes before the idea was completely closed.

He stressed that it was simply a transfer suggestion and did not become a serious disagreement inside the club.

El-Nahhas also explained that his son's education was part of his thinking. Abdelrahman is in his third year of dental school, so his father preferred him to play for a club in Cairo, which would make it easier for him to balance football and his studies.

The former Al Masry coach strongly rejected claims that the situation involving his son was behind his departure.

He also questioned the criticism he received after leaving the club and said that his work with Al Masry should be judged by what he achieved on the pitch.

El-Nahhas pointed out that he helped the club win a trophy after a 28-year wait, and he believes this achievement should be part of any fair assessment of his time with the team.

He also said that nobody had contacted him about becoming the coach of Egypt's Olympic national team despite reports linking his name with the position.

He originally played as a striker before changing his position to centre-back, where he developed and produced stronger performances with Al Ahly's youth sides.

Abdelrahman was later promoted to the senior squad after Al Ahly secured the Egyptian Premier League title in the 2023-24 season.

However, he did not make an official first-team appearance.

At one stage, Abdelrahman was also close to joining Saudi club Al Ettifaq. However, the possibility of earning a chance with Al Ahly's first team encouraged him to stay.

He received support from the coaching staff, while former Al Ahly head coach Marcel Koller also followed his progress.

Abdelrahman eventually left Al Ahly and joined Ceramica Cleopatra as he looked for more playing opportunities and a better chance to continue his development.

Emad El-Nahhas explained that he had also encouraged his son to leave Al Ahly because regular first-team football would be difficult to secure at the club.

Abdelrahman's name has now attracted major attention, not because of a new transfer or an outstanding performance, but because of claims linking him to his father's departure from Al Masry.

El-Nahhas continues to reject that version of events. He maintains that the proposed deal was only a simple idea that was rejected within minutes and should not be treated as the reason his spell at Al Masry ended.

The controversy has brought El-Nahhas' time with the Port Said club back into the spotlight, but the coach believes his work should be judged by his results and achievements rather than a transfer conversation that ended almost as soon as it started.

Al Masry have since moved into a new period under head coach Ahmed Samy, while Abdelrahman continues his career with Ceramica Cleopatra away from the controversy surrounding his name.
