Pyramids defender Ahmed Samy has moved closer to earning a new opportunity with the Egypt national team after emerging as one of the players being seriously considered by head coach Hossam Hassan ahead of the Pharaohs’ opening matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Hossam Hassan is closely monitoring Samy’s performances with Pyramids as he looks to strengthen Egypt’s defensive options before the matches against Angola and South Sudan.

The coaching staff has not officially confirmed Samy’s selection yet, but his presence among the players under consideration makes him one of the leading candidates for the squad scheduled to be announced on September 16.

Samy Nears Egypt Squad

Hossam Hassan’s interest in Ahmed Samy comes as part of the coaching staff’s efforts to add more defensive options ahead of a new qualifying campaign.

The Pyramids defender is being closely watched, with his performances in the coming matches expected to play an important role in determining whether he will be included in Egypt’s final squad.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the coaching staff has settled on a group of overseas-based players for the upcoming camp.

The list includes Trabzonspor star Mohamed Salah, Tottenham forward Omar Marmoush, Nice defender Mohamed Abdelmonem and Nordsjaelland player Ibrahim Adel.

Celtic’s Haytham Hassan, Barcelona’s Hamza Abdelkarim and Ludogorets defender Hossam Abdelmaguid are also among the names mentioned, alongside Al Riyadh winger Mahmoud Trezeguet, Al Wakrah midfielder Hamdy Fathy and Al Ain defender Rami Rabia.

Egypt will begin their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign against Angola on September 25.

Egypt team director Ibrahim Hassan confirmed that the match will take place at Cairo International Stadium at 10:00 PM in the opening round of the qualifiers.

Hossam Hassan is expected to announce his final squad on September 16, when Ahmed Samy’s position will officially become clear.
