Zamalek continued their strong start to the Egyptian Premier League season with a 2-0 victory over Abu Qir Fertilizers at Cairo International Stadium in the fourth round.

Mohamed Ismail scored the opening goal in the 17th minute, while substitute Ahmed Sherif added the second in the 87th minute to secure three points and temporarily move Zamalek to the top of the table.

Strong Start, Late Finish

Zamalek entered the match looking to continue their winning run and took an early lead after Abu Qir goalkeeper Mahmoud Abdel Rahim Gennesh left his goal. The ball reached Mohamed Ismail, who fired a powerful shot into the net.

Despite falling behind, Abu Qir remained competitive, recording 53% possession and 13 shots compared with eight for Zamalek.

Zamalek came close to scoring again in the 69th minute when Omar Gaber delivered a cross toward Oday Dabbagh, but defender Mohamed Dabash made a crucial goal-line clearance.

Temporary Top Spot

The victory took Zamalek to 10 points and moved them temporarily to the top of the Egyptian Premier League, one point ahead of Pyramids, Al Ahly and Ceramica Cleopatra, although the teams have played different numbers of matches.

The win was Zamalek’s third league victory of the season after previous wins over National Bank of Egypt and Suez Petrojet. Their only dropped points came in the opening-round draw against Al Ittihad Alexandria.

Abu Qir remain on three points after suffering a third straight defeat, leaving them in 15th place.

Zamalek will face Ghazl El Mahalla on September 16, but first they will play Port of Djibouti on Saturday in the second leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round.
