Pyramids Defender Osama Galal Faces Around Six Months Out After Tibia and Fibula Fractures in Training

Pyramids have suffered a major setback ahead of the next stage of their CAF Champions League campaign after defender Osama Galal sustained a serious injury during a team training session, with the player now set to undergo surgery and spend several months away from the pitch.
Galal was injured on Thursday evening during Pyramids’ training session at the Air Defense Stadium, as the team continued preparations for the second leg against Kenyan side Gor Mahia in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
The injury happened following a strong challenge in training. The medical staff immediately transferred the defender to a nearby hospital for scans and further medical checks.
Serious Injury, Long Absence
Medical examinations confirmed that Osama Galal suffered fractures in both bones of his lower leg, an injury that requires surgery before he can begin his treatment and rehabilitation program.
Reports indicated that the operation will take place in Egypt and that there is no need for the player to travel abroad.
There were, however, different estimates over the length of his recovery.
Pyramids doctor Mostafa El-Monairy said Galal could be out for around four months, while other reports and information linked to the club suggested that his absence could extend to around six months.
The exact recovery period is expected to become clearer after surgery and according to the player’s response to treatment and rehabilitation.
The injury means Pyramids will be without one of their defensive options during an important period of the season, with the club competing on both domestic and continental fronts.
Galal had not played many minutes in the Egyptian Premier League this season before the injury. He made only one league appearance, playing a total of 12 minutes before suffering the setback that will now keep him out for a long period.
Blow Before Gor Mahia
Galal’s injury comes at a difficult time for Pyramids, just days before their CAF Champions League second-leg clash with Gor Mahia.
Pyramids will host the Kenyan side on Sunday, September 13, at the Air Defense Stadium after securing an important 2-0 victory in the first leg in Nairobi.
Walid El Karti opened the scoring in the fifth minute before Mahmoud Saber added the second goal in stoppage time, giving Pyramids a strong advantage ahead of the return match in Cairo.
Galal is also not the only player currently receiving medical treatment at the club, with the medical staff working to prepare several injured players for a return.
Mahmoud Zalaka is following a rehabilitation program after suffering an adductor muscle strain, while Jordanian player Ouda Al-Fakhouri is recovering from an ankle ligament injury.
Defender Mahmoud Marei also suffered a head injury during the first leg against Gor Mahia and required eight stitches, while Everton is close to returning after recovering from illness.
Despite the injury problems, Pyramids have made an excellent start to their domestic league campaign.
The team won all four of its opening league matches to collect 12 points and move to the top of the table.
However, losing Osama Galal for several months represents another important test for the depth of the squad, as Pyramids try to maintain their strong league form while also continuing their CAF Champions League campaign.
