Egypt’s Dina Meshref saw her impressive run at the Champions Series table tennis tournament in Macau, China, come to an end in the quarter-finals after losing to China’s Shengtong, the world No. 7.

Meshref was beaten 4-0 in the quarter-final clash as the Chinese player took control of the match and secured her place in the next round.

Despite the defeat, Meshref leaves the tournament after one of her most notable international performances, having produced several strong results against highly ranked opponents.

Historic Run

Meshref started her campaign in impressive fashion in the round of 32, where she produced a major upset by defeating China’s Wang Yidi, the world No. 5, 3-1.

The victory had special importance for the Egyptian player, as she became the first Egyptian woman to defeat an opponent ranked inside the world’s top 10.

Meshref then continued her strong form in the round of 16, beating American Lily Zhang, ranked No. 32 in the world, in straight games, 3-0.

That result secured her place in the quarter-finals and extended what had already become a memorable tournament for the Egyptian star.
