Younes Ibrahim, Brighton’s young midfielder, has quickly become a name to watch among Egyptian football fans after continuing his progress through the English club’s academy and moving closer to the first team.

Born in 2008, Ibrahim is one of the young Egyptian talents developing in European football. His performances and numbers with Brighton’s youth teams have helped him move through the academy levels and eventually earn a place in a senior matchday squad.

Interest in Ibrahim has also reached the Egyptian national team. Egypt’s coaching staff, led by Hossam Hassan, have confirmed that the youngster is being monitored, although no official call-up has been sent to him so far.

He has also made a positive start to the current season. In his first two appearances for Brighton’s youth side across competitions, he scored once and registered one assist.

The midfielder has also featured once in the Football League competition with Brighton’s youth team and made two appearances at Under-19 level. He has also won the Premier League Under-21 title once with the club.

The biggest step of his young career came when he was included in Brighton’s first-team squad for the Premier League match against Coventry City.

Brighton won the game 5-0, and although Ibrahim did not enter the pitch, his presence among the senior substitutes was an important sign of his progress.

Ibrahim has not yet made an official first-team appearance for Brighton. However, reaching the senior matchday squad at his age suggests that he is moving closer to the first-team picture if he can maintain his development at youth level.

That means there is a clear difference between monitoring the player and officially selecting him for the national team.

For Ibrahim, the immediate target is likely to remain his progress at Brighton: securing his place with the Under-21s, continuing to produce goals and assists, and eventually earning his first competitive minutes with the senior side.

Talk of an Egypt debut may therefore still be early, but the midfielder’s development in one of England’s top academies means his name will continue to attract attention.

Ibrahim is not yet a Premier League regular and has not received an official Egypt call-up, but he has already taken important steps in his young career.
