Egypt's Amina Orfi wrote a new chapter in her squash career after winning the Qatar Classic title for the first time, defeating compatriot Hania El Hammamy 3-2 in an all-Egyptian final.

The victory was about more than adding another trophy to Orfi's record. Her triumph was also linked with her rise to the top of the world rankings, making her the youngest player in squash history to reach the World No. 1 position.

The final had a strong Egyptian presence, with Orfi and El Hammamy battling for the title after both produced impressive runs throughout the tournament.

Orfi entered the final as the World No. 2, while El Hammamy went into the match as the top-ranked player and defending champion.

The two Egyptians produced a highly competitive contest that went to five games before Orfi eventually secured a 3-2 victory and lifted the Qatar Classic trophy for the first time in her career.

Orfi had already shown excellent form on her way to the final. In the semifinal, she defeated England's Jasmine Hutton, ranked No. 12 in the world, in straight games.

The Egyptian needed only 36 minutes to complete the 3-0 victory, winning the games 11-5, 11-6 and 11-6.

El Hammamy, meanwhile, had a much longer semifinal against Malaysia's Sivasangari Subramaniam, the World No. 5.

Their match lasted 87 minutes, with El Hammamy eventually winning 3-2. The games ended 8-11, 11-9, 15-13, 9-11 and 12-10, setting up an all-Egyptian final against Orfi.

Historic Achievement

Orfi's Qatar Classic victory carried even greater significance as it coincided with her move to the top of the world rankings, making her the youngest player in squash history to reach World No. 1.

The achievement highlights the rapid progress of the Egyptian star, who has moved from competing for major titles to reaching the highest position in the sport.

The final also provided another example of Egypt's continued strength in international squash. With Orfi and El Hammamy both reaching the championship match, Egypt had already secured the women's title before the first ball of the final was played.
