Reda Babiker’s interest in representing Egypt has moved from an idea about the future to a real step, after the PSV Eindhoven youngster joined Egypt’s U17 national team camp.

Born on February 5, 2010, Babiker attracted attention at an early age during his development in Dutch football. He spent several years at the Ajax academy before moving to PSV Eindhoven’s U17 side in the summer of 2026.

His connection with the Egyptian national team did not begin with his latest call-up. While he was still at Ajax, Babiker had already welcomed the possibility of representing Egypt. Nearly two years later, that interest became more concrete when he joined the U17 camp in September 2026.

From Ajax to PSV

Babiker began his football development with Dutch club VPV Purmersteijn before joining Ajax in 2020.

He spent several years inside the Amsterdam club’s youth system, gaining experience in an academy known for developing young players technically and tactically.

Babiker remained with Ajax until 2026 before starting a new chapter with PSV Eindhoven U17 on July 1.

His years at Ajax and his move to PSV have given him experience inside two of the Netherlands’ leading youth systems at an important stage of his development.

Babiker is also able to play in several positions. He is mainly used on the left side of defence, but he can also operate as a centre-back or defensive midfielder, while he is capable of covering at right-back as well.

The youngster is naturally left-footed, which gives him another advantage when building attacks from the back and playing passes under pressure.

A Step Toward the Pharaohs

In September 2026, Babiker joined Egypt’s U17 training camp under head coach Abdel Sattar Sabry, alongside Santos youngster Jihad Ayman.

Egypt are preparing for the North African qualifiers for the U17 Africa Cup of Nations, with matches against Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya on their schedule.

Babiker’s arrival represents another step in a story that began much earlier.

Back in October 2024, while he was still part of the Ajax academy, his name appeared among young overseas talents eligible to represent Egypt, and he expressed his openness to wearing the Egyptian shirt.

Almost two years later, the situation has developed from interest and scouting into direct involvement with the national team.

Babiker has more than one international option because of his Egyptian, Sudanese and Dutch background. His presence with Egypt’s youth team now gives the coaching staff an opportunity to watch him closely and assess how he fits into the group.

His next challenge will be turning this first opportunity into a regular place in the squad, with strong competition among Egypt’s young players ahead of the African qualifiers.

For Egypt, adding a player who developed at Ajax and has now moved to PSV offers another interesting option as the national setup continues to follow young talents based at European and international academies.

Babiker’s journey with Egypt is still at an early stage. However, moving from expressing an interest in representing the country to actually joining a national-team camp is an important step for a 16-year-old player who still has plenty of time to develop and prove himself.
