The controversy involving Al Ahly basketball player Amr Zohran and Al Qanah player Ahmed Gaber has taken a new turn after the Egyptian Basketball Federation completed its investigation into the incident that occurred during their Egyptian Basketball League match.

Contradictory Accounts From Both Players

Mohamed Fathy, vice president of the Egyptian Basketball Federation, confirmed that the investigation into both players had been completed, but their accounts differed over what happened after the match.

According to Fathy, Zohran stated during the investigation that he had reconciled with Gaber following the game. Gaber, however, denied that a reconciliation or handshake had taken place between the two players.

The conflicting statements prompted the federation to submit the investigation findings to its board, which is expected to review the case before determining the appropriate disciplinary measures.

Federation Decision Expected

Fathy indicated that the expected decision would have an educational and disciplinary dimension, while a strict sanction against Zohran remains possible, particularly given the recurrence of the incident and his status as an international player who is viewed as a role model for younger athletes.

Regarding the match officials, Fathy explained that the federation has not yet received the refereeing report. He added that the officials did not see the incident in question, meaning that no announced action has been taken against the referee so far.

The federation's board is now awaiting the refereeing report before completing its assessment of the incident and deciding on the measures to be taken.
