Al Ahly secured an important 2-1 away victory over Uganda's Kitara FC on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Hoima Stadium in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup round of 32.

The Egyptian side came from behind after conceding in the first half, with Omar El Saei and Ahmed Sayed Zizo scoring after the break to give their team a valuable advantage ahead of the return match in Cairo.

It was not an easy afternoon for Al Ahly.

Kitara took advantage of a defensive mistake to move ahead, but Hussein Ammouta's team responded with greater attacking pressure and completed the comeback in the closing stages.

Kitara Take the Lead Despite Al Ahly's Attacking Start

Al Ahly began the match looking for an early goal and pushed forward against the Ugandan side.

Moncef Bakrar, Hussein El Shahat and Mohamed Magdy Afsha were involved in several attacking moves as the visitors tried to create chances.

Despite Al Ahly's positive start, Kitara opened the scoring in the 30th minute through Gaddafi Wahab, who connected with a cross inside the penalty area and fired a close-range shot past goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.

The goal came against the run of Al Ahly's early attacking efforts and forced the Egyptian side to chase the game away from home.

Al Ahly tried to respond before halftime by increasing the pressure and looking for spaces in Kitara's defense.

However, the hosts protected their lead and went into the break with a 1-0 advantage.

The Egyptian team returned for the second half with more attacking energy, while Kitara looked for opportunities to score another goal on the counterattack.

El Saei Levels the Score Before Zizo Completes the Comeback

Al Ahly head coach Hussein Ammouta made three substitutions to improve his team's attacking performance.

Ahmed Sayed Zizo, Sofiane Benjdida and Tawfik Mohamed entered the match in place of Mohamed Magdy Afsha, Hussein El Shahat and Karim Fouad.

The changes helped Al Ahly increase their attacking pressure and eventually find a way back into the game.

In the 67th minute, Omar El Saei scored the equalizer after receiving a pass from Zizo.

The goal gave Al Ahly fresh confidence, and the visitors continued pushing forward instead of settling for a draw.

Their efforts paid off late in the match when Akram Tawfik was brought down inside Kitara's penalty area, earning Al Ahly a penalty.

Zizo stepped up to take the spot kick in the 83rd minute and successfully converted it, putting the Egyptian side 2-1 ahead.

Kitara attempted to respond after falling behind, but Al Ahly remained organized enough to protect their lead until the final whistle.

The closing minutes also brought concern for Al Ahly after goalscorer Omar El Saei suffered an injury and was replaced by Mohamed Hany.

Achraf Bencharki also entered the match late on, replacing Taher Mohamed Taher.

Al Ahly started with Mohamed El Shenawy in goal, behind a defensive line of Yasser Marei, Achraf Dari, Akram Tawfik and Karim Fouad.

Marwan Attia, Omar El Saei, Hussein El Shahat, Taher Mohamed Taher and Mohamed Magdy Afsha featured in midfield and attacking roles, while Moncef Bakrar led the forward line.

The 2-1 victory gives Al Ahly an important advantage ahead of the second leg, scheduled for October 25 at Cairo Stadium.

A win or a draw in the return match will be enough for the Egyptian club to advance to the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Despite the positive result, the match showed that Al Ahly still have areas to improve, particularly their defensive concentration and handling of crosses into the penalty area.

However, the comeback also highlighted the team's ability to respond under pressure and the impact of Ammouta's attacking substitutions.

Al Ahly will now focus on finishing the job in Cairo, knowing that qualification is not yet officially secured.
