Al Qanah’s Modi Shalata Shines Against Al Ahly: Could Hossam Hassan Give Him an Egypt Chance?

Modi Shalata’s performance against Al Ahly has raised a question beyond the result: could the Al Qanah winger earn a chance with Hossam Hassan’s Egypt?
Shalata scored in the 3–3 draw and was named player of the match.
For a footballer who once failed a trial at Al Ahly, it was a memorable turnaround.
It also gave him a performance on which to build his international ambitions.
A Route Into Hassan’s Plans
Hassan’s willingness to consider players such as Mostafa Ziko and Islam Eissa offers encouragement to those hoping to break into the national team.
Playing outside Egypt’s biggest clubs should not prevent Shalata from making his case.
Performing against Al Ahly helps because it attracts attention and demonstrates that he can influence a demanding fixture.
But the next question for Egypt’s coaching staff is whether he can sustain that impact.
No call-up has been confirmed.
Masrawy quoted a national-team source saying the coaching staff had not decided whether to include him in the next camp.
More Than One Memorable Night
Shalata himself acknowledged that his recent performances had not been good, crediting Al Qanah coach Abdel Nasser Mohamed for supporting him.
That makes consistency the immediate challenge.
Another influential display would strengthen his case more than the growing discussion about his future.
Selection would also depend on what Hassan needs: whether Shalata offers a useful alternative in his position, how he contributes without the ball and whether his qualities suit the role available.
Egypt First, Then Europe?
Shalata has spoken of his ambition to represent Egypt and play in Europe, while describing talk of joining Al Ahly or Zamalek as premature.
For now, regular football at Al Qanah gives him an opportunity to turn those ambitions into something more concrete.
His performance against Al Ahly deserves closer attention, but the strongest argument for an Egypt chance will come from what he produces next.
