Zamalek Trio Reportedly Fined for Breaking Team Rules in Rwanda

Zamalek's celebration of reaching the CAF Champions League group stage has been overshadowed by controversy after the club's football management reportedly imposed heavy financial penalties on Ahmed Fattouh, Ahmed Sherif and Mostafa El Zenary following a night out in Rwanda.
According to a club source quoted in Egyptian media, Zamalek's director of football, Abdel Nasser Mohamed, decided to fine the three players after they reportedly visited a nightclub in Rwanda following the first-leg match against the Rwandan Army in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
The decision comes at an important time for Zamalek, with the team preparing for the group stage while continuing its Egyptian Premier League campaign.
Fines After Rwanda Incident
According to the source, Zamalek's football management decided to take firm action to remind players of the importance of following team rules and maintaining discipline both on and off the pitch.
Although the exact amounts of the fines have not been disclosed, the source described the penalties as substantial.
The incident also caused frustration among Zamalek supporters, particularly toward Ahmed Fattouh, who faced criticism and negative chants following Saturday's match against the Rwandan Army at Cairo International Stadium.
It was not the first time Fattouh had faced criticism from supporters.
Fans had previously expressed their frustration during Zamalek's Egyptian Premier League match against Petrol Asyut, before the reaction continued following the African fixture.
Qualification Amid Controversy
On the pitch, Zamalek secured a 1-0 victory over the Rwandan Army in the second leg, confirming their qualification for the CAF Champions League group stage.
Ahmed Sherif scored the only goal in the opening minute after receiving a cross from Omar Gaber, giving Zamalek an early advantage and helping the team secure the result.
Despite scoring the winning goal, Sherif was among the three players reportedly fined over the Rwanda incident.
The situation now presents a challenge for Zamalek's football management, which must maintain discipline without affecting the players' concentration ahead of a demanding period.
With tougher continental matches approaching and important domestic fixtures still to come, Zamalek will be hoping to put the controversy behind them and keep the squad focused on football.
The main question now is whether these financial penalties will help prevent similar incidents and allow the team to move forward without further distractions.
