Mido Backs Abdelmonem to Play for World’s Top Clubs After Nice Display

Former Egypt international Ahmed Hossam Mido has praised Mohamed Abdelmonem following his impressive performance for Nice against Brest in the French Ligue 1, describing the Egyptian defender as a player capable of competing at some of the world's biggest clubs.
Mido shared his opinion on X after watching Nice's 2-1 victory over Brest.
He considered Abdelmonem the best player on the pitch and expressed his belief that Egypt now has a defender with the ability to succeed at the highest level of European football.
His comments came after Abdelmonem delivered a strong defensive performance, helping Nice secure an important victory as he continued his impressive return from a serious knee injury.
Strong Display Against Brest
Mohamed Abdelmonem played the full 90 minutes as Nice came from behind to defeat Brest 2-1 in the eighth round of the French league.
Brest took the lead through Ludovic Ajorque in the 15th minute, putting Nice under pressure during the first half.
However, Elye Wahi scored the equalizer in the 61st minute before Sofiane Diop completed the comeback with the winning goal in the 83rd minute.
Abdelmonem played an important role in protecting Nice's defense throughout the match.
The Egyptian international recorded 12 defensive contributions, including nine clearances and two interceptions.
He also recovered possession six times and was not dribbled past during the game.
His performance attracted attention from supporters and football analysts, with Mido describing him as the standout player of the match.
The victory also helped Nice collect three valuable points and move to 11 points in the Ligue 1 standings.
Recovery And Comeback
Abdelmonem joined Nice from Egyptian giants Al Ahly in 2024, hoping to establish himself in European football.
He made his French league debut against Angers on September 1, 2024, and gradually started gaining experience with his new team.
However, his progress was interrupted in April 2025 when he suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury during a match against Paris Saint-Germain.
The injury kept him away from competitive football for around ten months, making his return a major challenge.
After completing his recovery, Abdelmonem gradually returned to action and began rebuilding his fitness and confidence.
During the current 2026-2027 season, he has appeared in eight matches for Nice, playing 602 minutes and receiving two yellow cards.
His return to the Egyptian national team under head coach Hossam Hassan also helped him regain match experience.
He appeared as a late substitute against Saudi Arabia before making appearances during the 2026 World Cup.
Abdelmonem played briefly against New Zealand and later started against Iran, although an ankle injury forced him to leave the match after just 14 minutes.
Since joining Nice, the Egyptian defender has made 20 appearances across all competitions, playing 1,457 minutes without scoring or providing an assist.
Despite the difficulties he has faced, Abdelmonem is showing positive signs of recovery and improvement.
His performance against Brest represents another important step toward securing a regular starting position at Nice.
With Mido praising his ability and his recent performances attracting attention, Abdelmonem will hope to maintain his progress and become an important player for both Nice and the Egyptian national team.
