Watch: Sadio Mané Pays Tribute to Egypt After Pharaohs Help Senegal Reach Round of 32

Sadio Mané sent a message of thanks to Egypt after the Pharaohs’ 1-1 draw with Iran helped Senegal officially clinch qualification for the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Senegal had earlier done their part by beating Iraq 5-0, a result that kept the Lions of Teranga alive in the race to qualify as one of the best third-placed teams. But they still needed other results to confirm their place in the knockout stage.
That confirmation came after Egypt held Iran to a 1-1 draw in Group G. The result prevented Iran from moving above Senegal in the third-place rankings and helped seal Senegal’s qualification to the next round.
Following the match, Mané posted an Instagram story featuring the Egyptian flag, in a clear gesture of appreciation after Egypt’s result played an important role in his country’s progression.
The moment quickly caught attention among fans, especially given the strong football rivalry between Egypt and Senegal in recent years. This time, however, the reaction was one of gratitude, as the Pharaohs’ result helped keep Senegal’s World Cup journey alive.
Senegal will now continue into the Round of 32 after a dramatic route to qualification, while Egypt also advanced after finishing second in Group G behind Belgium.
