Egyptian striker Hussein Mehasseb has made an impressive start to the new Cymru Premier season, scoring four goals in his first three league matches for Connah's Quay Nomads to move joint-top of the scoring charts alongside Jasper Payne.

Mehasseb scored twice in Connah's Quay's 3-1 victory over Holywell Town before adding another brace in the 6-0 win over Trefelin, having been kept off the scoresheet in the opening-round defeat to Caernarfon Town.

His strong start is not limited to domestic football. The Egyptian also found the net against Kosovo's Ballkani in the UEFA Conference League first qualifying round in July, taking his tally to five competitive goals for Connah's Quay this season.

The 24-year-old's route to Wales has been far from conventional. Born in Cairo, Mehasseb moved to Scotland with his family and spent time in the youth systems of Rangers and Motherwell before returning to Egypt and joining Al Ahly in 2022, where he was initially registered with the club's 2001-born side.

Mehasseb later returned to Europe, with spells at Neptunas in Lithuania, Omonia 29M in Cyprus and FC Malisheva in Kosovo before moving to Welsh football with Bala Town in 2024. He joined Connah's Quay this summer after two seasons with the Lakesiders.

Connah's Quay credited Mehasseb with nine goals and two assists in 28 appearances for Bala last season, form which convinced the Nomads to bring the 1.99-metre striker to the club ahead of their European campaign.

Now joint-top of the Cymru Premier scoring standings after only three rounds, the former Egypt youth international has quickly emerged as one of the Egyptian players abroad to watch this season.
