Pyramids continued their strong start to the Egyptian Premier League after claiming a fourth straight victory with a 1-0 win over El Gouna.

The match was important for more than just the three points, as Mohamed Hamdi returned to competitive action after a long injury absence, while Nasser Maher impressed and was named Man of the Match.

The victory at the Air Defense Stadium in the fourth round took Pyramids to 12 points from four matches, keeping their perfect record and top spot.

Perfect Start

Pyramids controlled much of the game from the early minutes but failed to turn their first-half pressure into a goal. El Gouna focused mainly on defending and created little danger, with the opening half ending goalless.

Pyramids finally took the lead in the 56th minute when El Gouna defender Khaled Sedik accidentally sent the ball into his own net.

The home side were awarded a penalty in the 72nd minute, but Nasser Maher’s effort was saved. Nazir Ben Bouali scored from the rebound, but the goal was ruled out after a VAR review because he had entered the penalty area before the kick was taken.

Another late Pyramids goal by Mostafa Ziko was also disallowed after a foul by Ben Bouali in the build-up.

Pyramids protected their one-goal advantage to move to 12 points, while El Gouna remained on two points.

Hamdi Returns, Nasser Shines

Mohamed Hamdi returned to competitive football for the first time in 248 days after suffering an ACL injury while playing for Egypt against Benin during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. He underwent surgery in Germany and completed a long rehabilitation process before replacing Karim Hafez in the second half.

Nasser Maher was another major figure and was named Man of the Match despite missing the penalty. He had 70 touches, created four chances through key passes and completed 40 passes with 83% accuracy.

He also attempted nine crosses, registered two shots on target, completed two dribbles, recovered the ball three times and won four of seven ground duels.

With a fourth straight league victory, Hamdi’s long-awaited return and another strong performance from Nasser Maher, Pyramids ended the night with several positives at the top of the Egyptian Premier League.
