Zamalek’s handball season came to a disappointing end after a semi-final defeat to Sporting Alexandria in the Egypt Handball Cup, a result that ultimately defined their campaign.

Sporting Alexandria went on to reach the final before losing to Al Ahly Handball Team, who secured the title, while Zamalek’s exit was followed by major squad developments, including the retirement of Ahmed El Ahmar and the departure of Mahmoud Khalil (Filfil).

End of an experienced core

The biggest development came with the announcement that Ahmed El Ahmar will retire at the end of the season. One of the most prominent figures in Zamalek’s history, his departure brings the curtain down on a long and successful spell with the club.

In the same context, goalkeeper Mahmoud Khalil (Filfil) confirmed his departure after several years at the club, meaning two experienced players will leave the squad at the same time.

Cup exit and title outcome

Zamalek’s defeat to Sporting in the semi-finals ended their run in the competition before the final, closing the door on their hopes of lifting the trophy.

Sporting, however, fell short in the final against Al Ahly Handball Team, who claimed the Egypt Handball Cup title and added another domestic trophy to their record.

Zamalek’s season ultimately ends without silverware, alongside key departures within the squad, as the club prepares to reorganize ahead of the new campaign.
