The draw for the 2027 World Men’s Handball Championship gave Egypt a good start to their campaign, placing them in a group that looks manageable on paper. But this start does not mean the road will be easy until the end, as the competition will become harder with every new stage.

Egypt were placed in Group B alongside Italy, Cape Verde, and Saudi Arabia. It is a group that appears less difficult than other groups that include major names in world handball. Therefore, it can be said that the draw gave the Pharaohs a good chance to start strongly, as long as they deal with every match with full seriousness.

The World Handball Championship will be held in Germany from January 13 to 31, 2027, with the participation of many of the strongest teams in the world. Egypt will play their three matches in the first round against Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, and Italy.

A Good Start.. But Focus Is Needed

Egypt will open their campaign against Cape Verde on January 13, then face Saudi Arabia on January 15, before ending their first-round matches against Italy on January 17.

This start looks suitable for the Egyptian national team in terms of the opponents’ names, but it does not allow any carelessness. Cape Verde have become one of the teams that have developed in African handball in recent years, Saudi Arabia have important experience at the Arab and Asian levels, while Italy remain a European opponent that should not be underestimated.

For this reason, Egypt need to enter the tournament with the highest level of focus, in order to settle their position early and leave the first round with the best possible result. Every match at the beginning of the tournament could have a major effect on the shape of the road in the following stages.

Also, finishing in a good position in the group may help Egypt deal better with the main round, especially as this stage will include stronger and more sensitive matches.

The Difficulty Starts After the First Round

If Egypt qualify for the main round, they will face teams from Group A, which includes Germany, the host nation, alongside Tunisia, Serbia, and Uruguay.

This is where the real test will begin for the Pharaohs. Facing Germany in a tournament held on their home soil will not be easy, because of the strength of the German team and the expected strong support from the fans. Tunisia also know Egypt very well through their repeated African clashes, which makes any match between them difficult and open to all possibilities.

Serbia, meanwhile, remain one of the strong European teams that rely on physical power and organization on the court. Uruguay also cannot be treated as a guaranteed opponent, because World Championships do not depend only on names, but on performance during the match.

Still, the draw included an important positive point for Egypt, as it kept them away at the start from major teams such as Denmark, France, and Spain. This gives the Pharaohs a chance to build confidence step by step before facing the stronger teams in the advanced rounds.

If Egypt reach the quarter-finals, they may face strong teams from other groups, such as Sweden, Norway, Portugal, Poland, Qatar, or Algeria. These matches will require a team that is physically and technically ready, and able to handle pressure in the decisive moments.

Therefore, it can be said that the draw did not give Egypt a completely easy path, but it gave them a suitable start and a good chance to organize their steps. What matters now is that the team deals with each match separately, without thinking too early about the later rounds.

The journey in the World Championship is not decided only by the draw, or by the names of the opponents on paper. Success requires focus, strong character, making the most of every chance, and avoiding small mistakes that could change the result of any match.

Egypt enter the 2027 World Handball Championship with big ambitions, and with a generation that has the experience and quality to compete. But achieving a strong run will not depend on the draw alone. It will depend on what the players do on the court, and their ability to turn a good start into a real path toward a new achievement for Egyptian handball.
