Former NBA Guard Malik Beasley Indicted in Federal Gambling Case
One of the biggest stories in American sports has emerged after former NBA guard Malik Beasley was formally indicted in a federal gambling case, adding another major chapter to the betting scandal that has rocked professional basketball.
Beasley appeared before a federal court and pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was later released on bond as legal proceedings continue.
What is Beasley accused of?
According to prosecutors, Beasley is accused of deliberately manipulating aspects of his on-court performance during several Milwaukee Bucks games in the 2023–24 season to benefit sports bettors.
The indictment alleges that the scheme involved prop bets linked to individual statistics such as points and rebounds. Prosecutors claim the manipulation was connected to financial gains and gambling-related debts.
Beasley Denies the Charges
During his court appearance, Beasley denied all charges through his attorney and maintained his innocence.
His legal team said the veteran guard intends to contest the charges and is confident the legal process will clear his name.
Growing Concern for the NBA
Beasley's case comes after former Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter was banned for life by the NBA in 2024 for violating the league's gambling rules.
Porter later pleaded guilty in a federal case involving a betting scheme centered on player prop bets, making his case one of the most significant gambling scandals in recent NBA history.
A Major Blow for the NBA
The case is the latest development in a broader federal investigation into illegal sports betting and alleged game manipulation involving professional basketball.
If convicted, Beasley could face significant legal consequences, while the case is expected to reignite debate over the growing influence of sports betting and its impact on the integrity of professional basketball.
