After Days of Controversy, Egyptian FA Refuses to Release VAR Conversations to Zamalek

The refereeing dispute surrounding the Cairo derby between Al Ahly and Zamalek has taken another turn after the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) rejected Zamalek's request to listen to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) audio recordings.
The match took place in the sixth round of the Egyptian Premier League and ended with Al Ahly winning 2-0.
The decision followed an official complaint submitted by Zamalek against the main referees committee.
The club questioned several refereeing decisions made during the match, which led to controversy after the final whistle.
Egyptian FA Rejects Zamalek's Request
The Egyptian Football Association sent an official response to Zamalek, confirming that the club would not be allowed to listen to the conversations between the on-field referee and the VAR officials during the derby.
According to Egyptian media reports, the response was delivered within the agreed deadline after Zamalek requested access to the audio recordings of several disputed decisions.
Zamalek officials wanted to hear the conversations to better understand how the referees communicated during those moments and why certain decisions were made.
However, the Egyptian FA rejected the request, preventing the club from accessing the recordings at this stage.
The reports did not provide further details explaining the reasons behind the rejection.
Zamalek Considers Its Next Move
The latest development comes days after Al Ahly defeated Zamalek 2-0 in the Cairo derby, a match that included several refereeing decisions questioned by the White Knights.
Following the match, Zamalek submitted an official complaint and requested a review of the disputed incidents, including access to the VAR room recordings.
Earlier, Maher Gharib, Zamalek's media director, explained that the club was waiting for the Egyptian FA's official response before deciding what to do next.
He also mentioned that Zamalek could request assistance from the Slovenian Embassy to provide a translator if needed during the process of listening to the recordings.
Now that the request has been rejected, Zamalek must decide whether to accept the response or consider further action regarding its complaint.
So far, the club has not announced any new official steps following the Egyptian FA's decision.
The refereeing controversy surrounding the Cairo derby continues to attract attention from both Al Ahly and Zamalek supporters, with fans waiting to see whether Zamalek will continue pursuing the matter.
