Bono Praises Messi Despite the Storm Surrounding Egypt vs Argentina

Although Morocco's 2026 FIFA World Cup journey came to an end, goalkeeper Yassine Bounou chose to reflect on one of the tournament's most dramatic matches, praising Lionel Messi's performance against Egypt in comments that quickly drew attention across the football world.
With the Egypt-Argentina match still generating intense debate over several refereeing decisions, Bono's decision to focus on Argentina's comeback and Messi's influence is likely to surprise many supporters.
Bono Applauds Argentina's Fighting Spirit
Bounou said what impressed him most in Argentina's clash with Egypt was not simply the victory, but the team's determination to fight back after trailing by two goals. He highlighted Messi as the driving force behind the comeback, noting how the Argentine captain recovered from missing a penalty to inspire his side with a performance he described as exceptional.
The Moroccan goalkeeper added that Messi is showing a different side of himself at this stage of his career, playing with confidence, composure, and the experience needed to make the difference in the biggest moments.
A Tribute to Messi and Argentina
Bounou concluded by congratulating Argentina and wishing the team success for the remainder of the tournament. He also paid special tribute to Messi, saying it is a privilege for football fans to continue watching the Argentine star perform at such a remarkable level despite his age.
The comments came shortly after Morocco's quarter-final exit following a 2-0 defeat to France, ending the Atlas Lions' hopes of repeating their historic 2022 achievement, when they became the first Arab and African nation to reach the FIFA World Cup semi-finals.
Meanwhile, the Round of 16 clash between Egypt and Argentina remains one of the defining matches of the tournament. Egypt held a two-goal advantage before the defending champions produced a dramatic late comeback to win 3-2, securing their place in the next round in a contest that continues to generate widespread discussion across the football community.
