Egypt has emerged as a serious contender to host the next edition of the Spanish Super Cup, in a move that could give Cairo the opportunity to stage one of European football’s most prominent events, after Saudi Arabia’s hosting plans were complicated by a scheduling clash with the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, the Spanish Football Federation is considering several bids to host the tournament on an exceptional basis. The United States, Mexico and China are among the countries interested, while Egypt has also entered the race after its football federation opened direct channels of communication with its Spanish counterpart to explore the possibility of staging the competition in Cairo.

According to reports from Spain, Egypt is among the leading options under consideration, particularly given its modern sports infrastructure and stadiums capable of hosting major international events. Its geographical location also makes it relatively accessible for both European and Arab fans.

However, moving the tournament to another country would not necessarily mark the end of the long-term partnership between the Spanish Football Federation and Saudi Arabia. Egypt also has another factor that could strengthen its position in the hosting race: the improving relationship between the Egyptian and Spanish football federations in recent months.
