After an ideal start that saw them make a strong statement at the IHF Women’s U18 World Championship, Egypt’s national handball team has entered a new stage of the competition in Romania after finishing top of its group with a perfect record.

Egypt’s qualification for the main round was far more than a routine achievement. It came following a series of impressive performances against high-level opponents, turning the team into one of the tournament’s biggest surprises and strengthening its hopes of progressing deep into the competition.

A Deserved Top Spot

Egypt began its campaign in what was considered one of the tournament’s toughest groups, featuring European runners-up Croatia, handball powerhouse France, and Fiji.

Despite the difficult challenge, Egypt’s young players secured three consecutive victories. Their opening win over Croatia, 27-24, set the tone before they continued their successful run and finished top of the group with six points.

Egypt concluded the preliminary round with a remarkable 83-17 victory over Fiji after taking a 43-9 lead into halftime. The result highlighted the team’s attacking strength and reinforced its status as one of the tournament’s most exciting sides.

The Decisive Test

With the start of the main round, the level of competition rises. Egypt will open this phase against South Korea on Monday, August 3, before facing Denmark on Tuesday, August 4.

Both matches will kick off at 11:45 a.m. Cairo time and will play an important role in determining Egypt’s position in the race for a place in the quarterfinals.
